Overview:
GovCIO is seeking a Journeyman Network Administrator to support mission-critical IT programs for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). This position will serve as a key operational resource, working directly with the Sustainment team to assist with technical tickets, daily infrastructure operations, and critical network maintenance tasks. This position will be located in Alexandria, VA as a hybrid position, with the requirement to travel to remote locations to remedy high-priority efforts.
Responsibilities:
As a Journeyman Network Administrator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the continuous availability, security, and performance of enterprise network infrastructure. You will be responsible for day-to-day configuration management, rapid issue resolution, and executing system maintenance routines. Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborate directly with the Sustainment team to manage and resolve technical support tickets, ensuring timely resolution of network operational issues.
- Perform hands-on switch and router configurations to optimize network routing, VLAN performance, and secure traffic distribution.
- Schedule, test, and push critical system updates, security patches, and firmware upgrades across all network infrastructure platforms.
- Travel to remote operational locations on short notice to troubleshoot, repair, and remedy high-priority network failures and critical efforts.
- Execute core daily network maintenance tasks, including performance monitoring, log reviews, and infrastructure health checks.
- Maintain up-to-date configuration documentation, topology maps, and deployment logs for all active networking equipment.
- Coordinate actively with engineering leads and field technicians to expedite hardware replacements and circuit troubleshooting.
- Support operational efficiencies by identifying recurring system issues and implementing standardized configuration workflows.
Qualifications:
High School with 6 - 9 years (or commensurate experience)
Required Skills and Experience
- Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+).
- Proven experience working as a Network Administrator or Network Engineer in an enterprise or federal environment, managing daily ticket queues.
- Demonstrated experience implementing hands-on configuration changes on core network devices (routers, switches, firewalls).
- Direct experience testing and deployment of network system updates, security patches, and OS upgrades across distributed nodes.
- Willingness and ability to travel to remote locations to lead high-priority troubleshooting and equipment restoration efforts.
- Proficiency in standard network administration tools, CLI management interfaces, and integrated ticketing/status portals.
Clearance Level: Must have an active Secret clearance
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Direct experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard missions, specifically working with Sustainment, C5I, or similar technical network directorates.
- Active technical certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+) are highly preferred.
- Familiarity with remote access configurations, secure enclaves, or specialized maritime/military networking architectures.
- Experience using centralized network monitoring and automation platforms (e.g., SolarWinds, Cisco DNA Center, Ansible).
- Understanding of federal change management processes and military cybersecurity compliance directives.
Posted Salary Range:
USD $90,000.00 - USD $113,000.00 /Yr.
