JOURNEYMAN PLUMBER
Howell, MI
Our client is a growing, family-owned plumbing company looking for journeyman plumbers who are as good with people as they are with pipe. You'll get a brand-new take-home van, fully paid employee medical, dental, and vision, and a leadership team that pays for your certifications and backs you on the job. If you're confident in your craft, take pride in treating customers right, and want to grow with a company that's building something for the long haul, this is worth a conversation.
THE BASICS
Location: Howell, MI
Pay: $38–$46/hour. High performers and backflow-certified techs earn up to $55–$56/hour. Wage bands are based on certifications and technical skill, and a formal 60-day review can move you up a band.
Service Area: [Not provided]. Dispatch from home or the warehouse.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, with a 7:30 AM report time. No after-hours or weekend service right now. Some commercial jobs are scheduled early morning or after hours so water shutoffs don't disrupt the client's operations. Larger after-hours jobs are handled case by case.
On-Call: Holidays only, on a rotation. On-call pays a stipend, plus time-and-a-half if you're dispatched. After-hours and weekend service is planned and may roll out in the next 6–12 months.
Reports To: Director of Technical Operations
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Dispatch from home or the warehouse and pick up staged parts and materials for your scheduled calls.
- Run service and install calls across residential and commercial work: repairs, replacements, toilets, vanities, drains, and hand digs.
- Handle drain work in-house with three brand-new machines. Jetting is the only drain service not done in-house.
- Look at the whole system, not just the call. Estimate the work, explain system lifespan, and present good/better/best options.
- Use a company tablet with field service software to write job summaries, build invoices, and get residential customer sign-off. Commercial accounts are billed on terms, so there's no collecting payment on those jobs.
- Work scheduled early-morning or after-hours shutdowns for commercial clients when their operations require it.
- Team up with other techs on bigger jobs that need a second set of hands.
- Lead by example as the company grows and starts bringing on apprentices and helpers.
WHY PLUMBERS LIKE WORKING HERE
- Take-home Transit van: a brand-new 2026 medium-roof, or a 2025 being freshly reshelved.
- Company credit card covers supply house runs, gas, and vehicle maintenance, so you never front costs out of pocket.
- Medical is 100% employer-paid for you, with three plan options, including a $0-deductible plan. The company also contributes 25–50% toward spouse coverage and 50–75% toward dependent children, depending on the plan.
- Dental and vision are 100% employer-paid for you and your dependents.
- Short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance are 100% employer-paid.
- 401(k) with a 3% company match.
- Six paid holidays: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.
- Vacation accrues from day one and increases with tenure, plus Michigan sick time.
- Continuing education and certifications are company-paid, and once you earn them, they're yours.
- Weekly pay and a weekly cell phone stipend.
- A field service tablet is provided.
- A structured start: a half-day orientation, then ride-alongs or solo calls with the technical lead checking in on you.
- A predictable Monday–Friday daytime schedule, with on-call limited to holidays and paid as extra.
- A clear path to higher pay through formal reviews and added certifications.
- Leadership that backs you up. You're the technical authority, and disrespectful customers don't get catered to.
- The company is family-owned, not private equity, and growing, with room to move up as the team expands.
