Job Title: Plumber

This position on a routine and daily basis provides all plumbing responsibilities including drain cleaning, new work, annual natural gas inspection, natural gas piping leak repair, boiler inspection, fixture repair/replacement, and other duties as required.

Job Duties:

• Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes. • Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures. • Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders. • Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment, including sinks, commodes, and water heaters. • Install and repair kitchen equipment such as gas stoves and dishwashers. • Receive and complete work orders. • Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates. • Maintain accurate records on material and labor used. • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean. • Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects. • Respond to emergency calls as needed. • Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition. • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. • Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately safe.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED • Texas journeyman plumbers license • Clear and valid Texas drivers license • Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques • Knowledge of plumbing codes • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material • Ability to perform mathematical calculations • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems • Have or obtain backflow testing certification within one year

Mental and Physical Demands:

• Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting • Physical Demands: Lifting, heavy lifting and carrying 45 pounds and over on a daily basis • Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals, and fumes, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around gas lines, work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district-wide travel

Motion Demands:

• Frequent walking, climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, grasping, squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching • Frequent driving

Tools and Equipment Used:

• Plumbing tools and equipment, including pipe bender, propane torch, hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment, including forklift, trencher, backhoe, light truck or van

Experience:

• Four years of plumbing experience preferred

Salary:

• Commensurate with TCISD hiring salary guide
