QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 5 to 8 years of Tool Maker, Mold Maker, Tool & Die, or related precision machining experience.
  • Strong experience building, repairing, and troubleshooting injection molds.
  • Proficiency operating manual machining equipment and CNC machine tools.
  • Advanced blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) skills.
  • Experience using precision inspection and measurement equipment.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred

  • Journeyman Tool & Die Maker certification.
  • Associate Degree or Technical Diploma in Tool & Die, Mold Making, Precision Machining, or a related field.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software.
  • Experience with EDM equipment and electrode manufacturing.
  • Previous experience mentoring apprentices or junior toolmakers.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Mold Building, Repair & Maintenance

  • Independently disassemble, diagnose, repair, and assemble complex injection molds.
    Perform mold fitting, spotting, and troubleshooting to ensure proper mold function and part quality.
  • Fit shears, parting lines, inserts, slides, lifters, ejector systems, and related tooling components.
  • Identify root causes of mold performance issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and rebuilds on production mold

Precision Machining

  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools including mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, and saws.
  • Machine mold components, inserts, electrodes, fixtures, and tooling to precise specifications and tolerances.
  • Perform precision grinding, drilling, tapping, reaming, boring, and finishing operations.
  • Manufacture replacement components when OEM parts are unavailable or impractical.

Tooling Development & Improvement

  • Assist in developing and improving mold designs to increase productivity, quality, and tool life.
  • Design and fabricate fixtures, jigs, gauges, and workholding devices.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to resolve tooling-related issues.
  • Recommend tooling improvements that reduce downtime and improve manufacturing efficiency.

Inspection & Quality Assurance

  • Verify dimensions, alignments, clearances, and tolerances using precision measuring instruments including:Micrometers, Calipers, Dial indicators, Gauge blocks, Height gauges, Bore gauges
  • Conduct tool tryouts and validation activities.
    Ensure all tooling meets quality standards and production requirements prior to release.
  • Blueprint Reading & Technical Documentation
  • Interpret complex blueprints, CAD drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Calculate dimensions, tolerances, clearances, and machining requirements.
  • Document repairs, modifications, and maintenance activities.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide guidance and technical support to junior Tool Makers and apprentices.
  • Assist with training and skill development within the tooling department.
  • Serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting complex tooling and mold issues.
