Journeyman Fleet Diesel Mechanic (Truck & Trailer) – Class 8

Compensation: $35.00–$50.00/hour (DOE)
Job Site Location: Seattle, WA
Work Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday | 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (five 8-hour shifts/week)

Stable, full-time schedule with consistent weekly hours (Tue–Sat)
Work on a diverse fleet: tractors, trailers, reefers, lift gates, yard goats, and box trucks
Strong benefits package including retirement options and tuition support
Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and DOT-style safety checks to keep equipment road-ready
Diagnose and repair diesel engines and electronically controlled systems using factory scan tools and diagnostic equipment
Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems (starting/charging/lighting), suspension, steering, brakes, and HVAC/A/C
R&R heavy truck components: engines, transmissions, axles, brakes, lift gates, and related assemblies
Rebuild engines, transmissions, and key components; maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Service and maintain refrigeration trailers (reefers) and box trucks
Document repairs, parts usage, and labor time accurately and consistently
Follow all safety protocols including LOTO, environmental regulations, and hazardous waste disposal requirements
Train/mentor apprentices and junior mechanics; inspect work quality and support team productivity
Must-Haves (Required)
5+ years of diesel mechanic experience diagnosing/repairing trucks (Class 8 experience strongly preferred)
Fleet maintenance experience (required)
Strong knowledge of electronic diesel engine diagnostics and repair
Experience with diesel engines, liftgate hydraulics, and refrigeration units
Basic welding skills (TIG, MIG, and stick)
Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently; follow technical manuals and verbal instructions
Comfortable using factory scan tools
Own a professional mechanic’s toolbox
High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid Driver’s License
Nice-to-Haves (Preferred)
Cummins and/or Detroit certifications
Reefer maintenance experience
CDL: Class B preferred; Class A is a plus
Familiarity with Freightliner, Isuzu, and Hino platforms
