Description

Performs a general variety of accounting and finance duties with a focus on revenues including local tax programs, cashflows and treasury work, and assisting with the city budget as assigned. Assists in complex workflows and performs backup and other duties as assigned. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Fiscal Manager.

Examples of Duties

  • Performs daily functions of local tax programs including creating bills, processing payments, performing analysis, communicating with the public, resolving customer inquiries, collections, and crafting procedures.

  • Performs general ledger work such as: preparing journal entries, reconciliations, research, investigating anomalies, compiling data, and making projections.

  • Is a backup to other finance functions including for cashflows, tracking deposits, investments, capital assets and banking.

  • Participates in software implementations and testing.

  • Assists with budget monitoring and preparation as assigned.

  • Assists with the annual audit as assigned.

  • Maintains confidentiality, performs duties in a professional manner, has excellent attendance and works with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Maintains positive working interactions with the public and internally, being responsive and providing clear and accurate answers to all groups served.

  • Identifies and communicates opportunities for process improvement.

Typical Qualifications

General Skill Levels

Knowledge of:

  • Basic mathematics including basic descriptive statistics.
  • General accounting and finance principals
  • Automated financial management systems
  • Microsoft Office Software application for work processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software such as Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • Excel to be able create and use complex spreadsheets

Skills in:

  • Analyzing information, creating accurate entries and records, preparing accurate reports in accepted formats.
  • Account reconciliation and analysis
  • Organizing and maintaining detailed records
  • Communicating effectively in English in writing and verbally to other employees, City departments, the public, elected officials and other agencies
  • Using a modern automated financial management ERP system effectively
  • Analytical skills/problem-solving abilities

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Experience in financial operations, preferably for a governmental organization
  • Familiarity with Excel with the ability to create and use complex spreadsheets
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment; frequent interaction with City staff and the general public. Full Salary Range: $55,987 - $75,582
