Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and student-centered Physical Education and Weight Training Teacher to join our team at Hamilton Community Schools. The ideal candidate will promote lifelong fitness, physical wellness, teamwork, and healthy habits while creating a safe, engaging, and structured learning environment for students in grades 6-12. This position includes teaching junior high physical education courses for grades 6-8 and high school weight training and conditioning courses for grades 9-12.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with Indiana Academic Standards for Physical Education and district curriculum expectations.
- Teach foundational physical education skills, fitness concepts, sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal wellness to junior high students.
- Instruct high school students in proper weight-training techniques, strength and conditioning principles, fitness goal setting, and safe equipment use.
- Supervise students during all instructional and activity periods to ensure a safe and positive environment.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the varying physical abilities, developmental levels, and learning needs of students.
- Monitor and assess student progress in physical fitness, participation, skill development, and personal improvement.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student performance records in accordance with school policies.
- Inspect and maintain physical education and weight room equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers, coaches, counselors, administrators, and parents to support student success and wellness initiatives.
- Encourage positive character development, leadership, responsibility, and healthy decision-making among students.
- Assist with supervision duties and participate in school functions, professional development activities, and extracurricular programs as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Valid Indiana teaching license in Physical Education or ability to obtain appropriate licensure.
- Strong knowledge of physical fitness, sports instruction, strength training, and student safety procedures.
- Ability to effectively manage classrooms, gymnasiums, locker rooms, and weight training facilities.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Experience coaching or supervising athletic or conditioning programs preferred.
