The Role

Were looking for an early-career UX engineer with a design education who loves the space between design and code. You should enjoy taking a rough idea, building the real thing in a browser, and caring about the difference between "it works" and "it feels right."

You wont just be implementing finished mockups. Youll make design decisions in code, prototype in hours rather than weeks, and use AI as a core part of how you work. Youll also be designing for AI. That means interfaces where responses stream in, latency is unpredictable, output changes every time, and the model is sometimes wrong. Those constraints break most familiar UI patterns, and figuring out what replaces them is the most interesting part of the job.

You dont need years of experience to do this well. You need a strong design foundation, curiosity, and a habit of building things. Well give you real ownership, close mentorship, and problems that very few people have solved yet.

What Youll Do

• Build and ship real interfaces for our AI Agent platform, working alongside senior designers and engineers from idea through production code.
• Prototype quickly and often, turning concepts into working demos that the team can click, test, and learn from.
• Help shape how AI features behave on screen: streaming responses, loading states, errors and fallbacks, and ways for users to correct, steer, or undo what an agent did.
• Design and build dashboards, workflows, and interaction flows that make complex AI capabilities feel simple for enterprise users.
• Contribute to our component library and design system so the product stays consistent as it grows.
• Sweat the small things: focus states, empty states, keyboard navigation, and what happens between a click and a response.
• Join user research and usability sessions, and turn what you learn into better designs.
• Work directly with product managers, designers, and ML engineers to understand what our models can and cant do.

What We Mean by "Good Taste"

• Taste is hard to put in a checklist, so heres what it looks like at the start of your career.
• You notice when something feels off, and you can explain why using the design principles youve learned.
• You have opinions about type, spacing, colour, and hierarchy, and you can defend them.
• You pay attention to details other people skip: what happens on a slow connection, how a list jumps when new items load, where focus goes when a modal closes.
• You know that adding motion isnt the same as adding meaning.
• Youve built at least one thing youre proud of - whether a design school project, a thesis, an internship project, or a hackathon entry - and you can explain the choices you made.

What We Mean by "AI-First"

• You already use AI tools such as coding agents, Copilot, Cursor, or Claude as a regular part of how you design and build.
• Youve noticed that AI-generated code sometimes looks right but isnt, and you check it before you trust it.
• Youre curious about how model APIs work, including prompting, streaming responses, and structured output - having tried them in a project is a big plus, and well help you go deeper.
• You see "the AI gets it wrong sometimes" as a design problem worth solving.

What Were Looking For

A Bachelors or Masters degree in Design (B.Des, M.Des, or equivalent), with a specialisation such as Interaction, UX, Communication, or Product Design. 0-2 years of experience, including internships, design school projects, or freelance work. Strong Figma skills, including components, auto layout, and interactive prototypes. A solid foundation in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, plus working experience with React or a similar framework - TypeScript is a plus. Comfort with CSS layout (flexbox and grid) and a genuine interest in getting spacing, alignment, and animation right in code. Grounding in user research and usability testing methods from your coursework or projects. An understanding of accessibility basics, such as semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, and colour contrast. Clear written and spoken communication, and comfort presenting and defending your design decisions. A portfolio showing your design process and things youve built in code.

Nice to Have

• A project that uses an LLM API, such as a chatbot, an agent, or a tool that generates content.
• Experience designing conversational interfaces, chatbots, or voice UI.
• Contributions to a design system, UI library, or open-source project.
• Some exposure to backend concepts like APIs, streaming (SSE or WebSockets), or serverless functions.
• Experimentation with Canvas, WebGL, or data visualization.
