Position Summary

The Junior Staff Accountant will assist with day-to-day accounting activities, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and property accounting functions. This role is ideal for a recent accounting graduate or early-career professional looking to develop their accounting skills in a dynamic real estate environment. The successful candidate will work closely with senior accountants, property managers, and finance leadership to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries for multiple real estate entities and properties.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, tenant security deposits, and general ledger accounts.
  • Review and process accounts payable invoices and vendor payments.
  • Assist with accounts receivable, tenant billing, rent collections, and cash applications.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Support preparation of monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Assist with real estate operating expense reconciliations and CAM recoveries.
  • Track fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
  • Coordinate with property management teams regarding accounting inquiries.
  • Assist with annual audits, tax preparation, and lender reporting requests.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and internal controls.
  • Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and basic formulas.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • Internship or experience in real estate, property management, public accounting, or corporate accounting.
  • Experience with Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, Entrata, or other property accounting software.
  • CPA candidate or interest in pursuing CPA certification.
  • Familiarity with real estate accounting concepts, including tenant billing, CAM reconciliations, and property-level financial reporting.
