The Vermont Judiciary is seeking an experienced administrative professional to join our team as a Judicial Assistant in Newport. This anticipated 18-month position offers the opportunity to gain specialized experience within Vermont's court system while supporting the fair and efficient administration of justice.

Judicial Assistants provide specialized administrative, clerical, and customer service support within one or more court dockets. Responsibilities include processing court cases, maintaining official records, assisting with in-person and virtual hearings, and serving as a professional resource for court users, attorneys, and justice partners. This is a fast-paced role that requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

This is a full-time, temporary role based in Newport, Vermont; this is not a remote/ hybrid position. Starting pay is $25.53 per hour or higher, depending on qualifications and experience. While this appointment is anticipated to last 18 months, it offers valuable experience in legal administration, courtroom operations, and public service while providing the opportunity to work alongside judges, attorneys, and other justice partners.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School graduation or equivalent
  • Two years of clerical, secretarial or data entry experience; preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in a legal setting working as a paralegal/ legal assistant with mastery of office technology. 
  • College training may be substituted for the work experience on a year for year basis.
