Junior Accountant

Location: Poughkeepsie, NY
Compensation: $55,000–$60,000

Position Summary:
The Junior Accountant supports the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization, ensuring financial records are accurate and maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role is ideal for an early-career accounting professional looking to grow their skills in financial reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger management while contributing to the overall financial health of the company.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and other routine adjustments
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and balance sheet schedules
  • Perform bank reconciliations and assist with cash application and monitoring
  • Analyze variances and support budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Assist in preparing reports for internal management and external stakeholders
  • Gather and organize documentation to support audits and tax filings
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure proper documentation of transactions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting-related inquiries
  • Utilize accounting systems and Excel to track, analyze, and report financial data
  • Assist with process improvements and system enhancements where applicable
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year of accounting or related experience
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs a plus)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new systems and processes
Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required
