Jr. Criminal Defense Associate (Misdemeanor Experience Required)At The Nieves Law Firm, APC, we seek a full‑time Associate Attorney with experience in a private criminal defense setting or a Public Defender's office. Candidates should have at least one year of demonstrable experience with criminal law, post‑conviction, and restraining order concepts, and must be prepared to operate in a fast‑paced environment while delivering high‑quality client service.ResponsibilitiesMaintain confidentiality and objectivity during all interactions.Prepare for hearings in advance, research potential issues, guide clients clearly, and provide strategic advice.Advocate for and secure the best possible outcome for clients.Apply post‑conviction remedies as required.Stay up to date on changes in the law and advise clients on direct and collateral consequences of their case.Draft and submit motions and other filings on time, meeting internal and external deadlines.Arrive at work and court on time in professional and appropriate attire.Maintain a good rapport with clients and treat them with respect.Participate in ongoing training, networking and community events as required by the Firm.Accurately and concurrently bill time.Qualifications1–5 years of criminal defense experience, preferably in misdemeanor and jury trial settings.High energy, eagerness to learn, and strong time‑management skills.Strong research and writing skills; excellent oral advocacy.Prepared and punctual with commitment to high‑quality client service.Possess a J.D. and be in good standing with the State Bar of CA.Willingness to travel throughout Alameda County and the surrounding Bay Area.Second‑language proficiency is encouraged.RequirementsAdmission to the California Bar.Capacity to attend court in the Bay Area.Compensation & BenefitsSalary: $100,000 – $135,000 yearly, DOE.
