Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Junior Data Consultant to lead the modernization and optimization of our cloud data architecture. In this role, you will be responsible for upgrading our application ecosystem to utilize Amazon Aurora DSQL (Distributed SQL) to ensure high-performance, globally scalable data operations. You will collaborate closely with Enterprise Architects to validate distributed application patterns using Amazon Aurora Global Database and partner with DevOps teams to design, test, and implement robust primary writer failover scenarios .

The ideal candidate bridges the gap between data engineering, systems architecture, and site reliability, ensuring our globally distributed applications maintain maximum uptime and minimal latency.

Core Responsibilities

• Database Modernization: Update and configure the application tier to seamlessly integrate with Amazon Aurora DSQL , optimizing distributed queries and ensuring transactional consistency across shards.
• Architecture Validation: Partner with the Principal Infrastructure Architect to review, validate, and stress-test the distributed application architecture against Aurora Global Database deployment patterns.
• Resiliency & Failover Planning: Collaborate with the DevOps engineering team to design, automate, and document disaster recovery protocols, specifically focusing on primary writer failover scenarios to minimize Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
• Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize cross-region replication lag, write throughput, and connection pooling within the distributed database cluster.
• Best Practices & Governance: Establish configuration standards, schema migration strategies, and deployment pipelines tailored for distributed SQL workloads.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Cloud Database Expertise: Proven experience designing and managing AWS database services, with specific, deep knowledge of Amazon Aurora , Aurora Global Database , and Distributed SQL (DSQL) concepts.
• Distributed Systems Knowledge: Strong understanding of distributed application patterns, cross-region replication, consensus protocols, and data consistency models (e.g., eventual vs. strong consistency).
• DevOps Collaboration: Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines to assist DevOps in automating database failovers and environment provisioning.
• Chaos Engineering: Experience simulating multi-region infrastructure failures, split-brain scenarios, and database cluster recovery.
• Communication & Advisory: Excellent technical consulting skills, with the ability to align development teams, architects, and operations engineers toward a unified infrastructure goal.
