We're a team of 9 people, 6 of whom are engineers, and we ship daily.
The role
We're hiring a Junior Developer to work on our backend services alongside senior engineers who genuinely enjoy mentoring. You'll be writing production code in your first weeks -- not shadowing for six months.
This is a fully remote role if you live in MN, ND, IA or WI. We're a remote team by default: decisions get written down, and you won't be disadvantaged for not being in a room.
Day to day, you'll be:
• Building and maintaining REST APIs and services in Node.js (TypeScript)
• Writing and optimizing PostgreSQL queries and schema migrations
• Deploying and monitoring services on Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub)
• Writing tests and reviewing teammates' pull requests
• Debugging real issues in production with support from the team
• Participating in planning, standups, and retros
• Growing into machine learning and AI work as you develop -- we provide the training, so you don't need this background coming in
What we're looking for
You don't need to tick every box. If you can do most of the "must-haves," apply.
Must-haves
• Working knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript, and some experience with Node.js
• Familiarity with SQL and relational databases
• Comfortable with Git and collaborative workflows (branches, PRs, code review)
• Hands-on experience with at least one public cloud platform -- GCP preferred, but AWS or Azure is fine. Coursework, certifications, or personal projects count.
• Able to break a problem down, explain your thinking, and ask for help early
• [0-2 years of professional experience, a bootcamp/CS background, or a portfolio of personal projects -- we're open on how you got here]
Nice to have
• Docker, CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure-as-code
• Experience with an ORM or query builder (Prisma, Knex, TypeORM)
• Testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest)
• Any exposure to machine learning or AI concepts -- not required, since we'll train you, but curiosity here is a plus
• Open-source contributions or side projects you can talk about
NOTE: This job description is not intended to be all inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
