Description

Job Description:

ORBIS is seeking a Project Engineer to support the Radiation Detection, Indication, and Computation (RADIAC) Professional Services Contract. This position is located on-site at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown (Yorktown, VA) and provides full lifecycle engineering support for radiation detection instruments. The selected candidate will provide support to equipment Lead Engineers for of portable and installed radiation detection instruments or air samplers while training to become Lead Engineers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Acquisition Support for the Navy RADIAC Program
  • Participate in the development of technical specifications, acceptance test plans, and technical data requirements.
  • Review vendor-developed technical data packages, including drawings, test procedures, and test reports.
  • Review and edit technical manuals and repair standards using Microsoft Word, Visio, Adobe Pro, and SGML/XML tools.
  • Interpret and apply ANSI/military standards when developing calibration procedures for RADIAC calibration laboratories.
  • Participate in first-article and production testing.
  1. Lifecycle Management for In‑Service Equipment
  • Review engineering change proposals and develop field changes as required.
  • Develop technical and policy manual content, repair standards, calibration procedures, and other documentation in accordance with Navy policies and contract requirements.
  • Conduct failure analyses, calibration interval analyses, reliability-centered maintenance analyses, and periodic lifecycle audits; manage RADIAC assets and repair parts.
  • Prepare technical data packages and coordinate logistics support for equipment fielding.
  • Perform verification and validation of calibration, operating, and maintenance procedures.
  • Develop defielding and demilitarization procedures for obsolete equipment.
  1. Direct Support: Provide technical support to Navy RADIAC customers, the RADIAC Program Office, other program personnel, and the ORBIS RADIAC engineering team.

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Applicants must be detail‑oriented and demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and troubleshooting/problem‑solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Pro and experience developing content in SGML/XML format are also desired but not required.

Degree Requirements:

BS degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, radiological, nuclear, or related fields). Strong candidates with four‑year degrees in other areas such as health physics or physical sciences may also be considered.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
