Aquinas Consulting is hiring a contract to hire Junior Engineering Support Technician for our client located in Fairfield County, CT.

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated, hands-on Junior Engineering Support Technician to support the manufacturing of precision components, including edge welded bellows and welded stainless steel floats. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates looking to grow their skills in manufacturing engineering, with a strong focus on machine setup, welding support, and basic automation.

You will work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure equipment is properly set up, processes run efficiently, and product quality standards are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with machine setup, changeovers, and adjustments to support daily production needs
  • Support setup and operation of welding equipment used in edge welding and stainless steel float fabrication
  • Help troubleshoot welding issues, identify defects, and assist in implementing corrective actions
  • Assist in PLC troubleshooting and basic programming updates under guidance from senior engineers
  • Support maintenance and troubleshooting of pneumatic systems, including valves, fittings, and actuators
  • Prepare and stage tooling, fixtures, and materials for production runs
  • Follow and help improve setup sheets, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Monitor machine performance and report issues affecting quality or efficiency
  • Work with engineering to improve setup times, tooling, and overall process flow
  • Assist in root cause investigations and corrective actions for production issues
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
  • 0–2 years of experience in a manufacturing or technical support role (internships or co-ops count)
  • Basic understanding of machine setup, mechanical systems, or fabrication processes
  • Exposure to welding (TIG or similar) is a plus but not required
  • Basic knowledge or coursework in PLCs or industrial controls preferred
  • Familiarity with hand tools, measurement tools, and shop equipment
  • Ability to read basic engineering drawings and work instructions
  • Strong willingness to learn, take direction, and work hands-on in a production environment

Preferred Skills

  • Interest in precision manufacturing or welding processes
  • Basic understanding of pneumatics or automation systems
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving mindset
  • Good attention to detail and organization

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to machinery, welding equipment, and industrial processes
  • Requires standing, lifting, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Hands-on role with direct interaction with equipment and production processes

Growth Opportunity

This role provides a strong foundation for advancement into Manufacturing Engineering, Automation, or Process Engineering roles. You will gain hands-on experience in machine setup, welding processes, and industrial automation systems.
