Position OverviewA Junior Graphic Designer is needed to support a federal public affairs and communication strategy contract. This role provides graphic design, digital media, and visual communication support within a fast-paced environment focused on strategic communication, public affairs, senior leader messaging, internal communications, and stakeholder engagement.
This is an entry-level to early-career position requiring professionalism, attention to detail, responsiveness, and the ability to follow direction in a formal federal customer environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong graphic design fundamentals, working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, a basic understanding of Section 508 accessibility requirements, and the ability to support quick-turn communication products while maintaining quality and accuracy.
This role is primarily remote; however, candidates must live within approximately 75 miles of Washington, DC and be available for occasional on-site meetings or mission requirements in the National Capital Region.
Key Responsibilities- Develop graphic design products supporting public affairs, communication strategy, and stakeholder engagement.
- Create visual content for digital, print, presentations, social media, web, and briefings.
- Design graphics, layouts, templates, infographics, visual summaries, briefing materials, and social media assets.
- Assist with multimedia content including still graphics, motion elements, text overlays, and formatted imagery.
- Ensure all deliverables align with established direction, brand standards, and messaging.
- Apply basic Section 508 accessibility principles to all deliverables.
- Edit, crop, resize, and optimize visual assets across platforms.
- Support rapid revisions based on team and stakeholder feedback.
- Maintain organized project files and deliverables.
- Work within structured review and approval processes.
- Communicate task progress, deadlines, and issues clearly with the team.
- Accept and apply feedback professionally and efficiently.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in graphic design, digital media, visual communication, communications, marketing, or related field; OR at least three years of relevant experience.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign required). Motion graphics tools are a plus.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating clean and professional design work.
- Ability to create graphics across multiple formats (presentations, social, web, print, executive materials).
- Basic understanding of Section 508 accessibility requirements.
- Strong attention to detail (layout, accuracy, formatting, and consistency).
- Ability to follow instructions and implement feedback effectively.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and professional conduct.
- Must reside within approximately 75 miles of Washington, DC.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting federal government customers.
- Experience with Department of Defense or military/public affairs environments.
- Familiarity with federal communication products, branding, or strategic communications.
- Experience designing materials for senior leader briefings and communication campaigns.
- Experience applying style guides, brand standards, or formal visual identity systems.
- Experience in a government contractor environment.
- Knowledge of digital asset organization and visual information standards.
- Understanding of accessibility best practices (alt text, contrast, typography, layout).
