Role Overview:

The Junior Mechanical / Industrial Engineer supports the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of packaging equipment within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, operational efficiency, and production support.

Working under limited supervision, this position assists with equipment maintenance, changeovers, troubleshooting activities, and process optimization initiatives while ensuring compliance with cGMP, safety, and environmental standards. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, interest in manufacturing operations, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced production environment.

Job Requirements:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Candidates with a high school diploma/GED and equivalent hands-on mechanical experience will also be considered.
  • 1–3 years of experience supporting manufacturing equipment, packaging machinery, maintenance operations, or industrial systems preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in equipment troubleshooting, maintenance, and manufacturing operations.
  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and workplace safety practices.
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical diagrams, gauges, equipment manuals, and production documentation.
  • Basic math and analytical skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical school certification or engineering-related coursework.
  • Experience with mechanical and electrical systems in a packaging, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with machine shop equipment, hand tools, and maintenance practices.
  • Internship, co-op, or entry-level experience within a manufacturing, pharmaceutical, packaging, or industrial environment preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Equipment Reliability: Assist in maintaining packaging equipment to ensure consistent production performance and minimize downtime.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance activities on packaging machinery and related equipment.
  • Support Equipment Changeovers: Assist with line changeovers, equipment setup, and operational adjustments to meet production requirements.
  • Troubleshoot Equipment Issues: Support the diagnosis and resolution of mechanical and operational issues affecting packaging equipment.
  • Identify Process Improvements: Participate in equipment optimization and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reliability.
  • Ensure cGMP Compliance: Perform all work in accordance with cGMP standards, safety requirements, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain Equipment Performance: Monitor equipment operation and communicate downtime events or recurring issues to supervisors and technical teams.
  • Promote Safety Standards: Identify potential hazards and support corrective actions to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Support Production Operations: Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, quality, and production teams to support manufacturing goals.
  • Maintain Documentation: Complete maintenance records, equipment logs, and related documentation accurately and timely.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
