We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects within a hands-on subcontractor environment.
This role is designed for someone ready to grow into a Project Manager, with increasing ownership over project execution. You’ll work closely with field teams, vendors, and leadership to support HVAC systems, piping installations, and day-to-day project coordination from preconstruction through closeout.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Engineer or junior APM looking to build a long-term career in project management.
Responsibilities
- Support execution of commercial HVAC and mechanical projects from preconstruction through closeout
- Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, and internal teams across active job sites
- Track project schedules, costs, and progress, escalating issues as needed
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and construction documents
- Assist with RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
- Coordinate with vendors and support procurement of materials and equipment
- Communicate with clients, inspectors, and internal stakeholders
- Participate in jobsite visits to support field operations and monitor progress
Requirements
- 2–5 years of experience in commercial HVAC or mechanical construction (APM, Project Engineer, or similar)
- Experience with commercial HVAC systems (residential-only experience will not be considered)
- Background working for a mechanical contractor or HVAC subcontractor
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications
- Strong interest in growing into a Project Manager role
- Basic understanding of scheduling and cost tracking tools
- Comfortable in a hands-on contractor environment
- Strong communication and organizational skills
