Junior RPGLE Developer

Overview:

 

Prime Inc is looking for Junior Developer to join our team and grow into an RPGLE (IBM i / AS400) programmer. No prior RPG experience is required. Candidates with experience in object-oriented or general-purpose language such as Java, Python, or C# are strongly encouraged to apply. We provide mentorship to help you transition your existing programming skills into the RPGLE environment.

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Learn and apply RPGLE (including free-format RPG) to maintain, enhance, and debug business applications on IBM i (AS400)
• Write, test, and document code under the guidance of senior developers
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving application issues reported by end users
• Participate in code reviews and follow established coding standards
• Work with SQL/DB2 for i to query and update data
• Collaborating with other developers to translate requirements into working solutions
• Continue building proficiency in RPGLE and related IBM i tools (CL, DDS, SQL) through hands-on work and formal training

Qualifications:

Knowledge

Knowledge and/or experience with administrative functions and or the IT industry would be helpful. Working knowledge of SQL — the ability to write SELECT statements with joins, filtering, grouping, and aggregation.

 

Abilities

Self-motivated and team oriented professional. Strong organizational, computer, and customer service skills required. Must possess excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. Willingness and eagerness to learn a new language and platform (RPGLE / IBM i). Accurate typing at least 45 WPM. 

 

Experience, Education, and Training

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Information Technology, or a related field, OR equivalent hands-on experience (approximately 1 year) writing code
• 1 year coding in RPGLE
• Exposure to IBM i, AS400, or legacy business systems
• Familiarity with version control (Git) and basic software development lifecycle practices Experience with JAVA, Python, C#, etc.

 

Physical Requirements

This position requires being able to sit and remain focused and motivated for long periods of time. Being able to multitask between the computer, phone, and different projects is required.

 

Working Environment

Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general office environment. Call volume can be heavy at times.
