    JOB POSTING

    Title: Junior/Senior High History/Social Studies Teacher

    Description: Junior/Senior High History/Social Studies Teacher

    PRIMARY FUNCTION: A social studies/history teacher has the responsibility to help students

    develop skills and knowledge consistent with the district's curriculum and goals that will

    contribute to the students' development as mature, able, and responsible adults. Teachers are

    responsible for maintaining a classroom climate which nurtures and supports the learning

    environment.

    DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Building Principal

    DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Prepare lesson plans that reflect a logical sequence of learning objectives and activities

    and meet the diverse student needs.

    • Create and maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to effective teaching and

    learning.

    • Use a variety of instructional strategies and materials that are appropriate for the stated

    instructional objectives and the needs and abilities of the students involved.

    • Monitor and assess student progress and adjust student instruction accordingly.
    • Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and families regarding student academic progress, behavior, attendance, and classroom expectations.
    • Establish standards of classroom conduct and administer them in a fair, equitable, and

    consistent manner.

    • Keep accurate records and provide them for school district use and file required reports

    on a timely basis.

    • Participate in required staff meetings and conferences.
    • Participate in committees as related to student needs, school programs, and district

    needs.

    • Provide supervision in non-classroom areas and situations in accordance with the building

    student management plan.

    • Promote and maintain a safe and healthful environment in the classroom and building.

    Other Functions:

    • Care for district resources, equipment and materials assigned to him/her and report

    concerns regarding facility and equipment to the designated supervisor.

    • Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all procedures and practices prescribed in the

    Teacher, Student, and/or Parent Handbooks.

    • Maintain a current folder of responsibilities and procedures for substitute teachers' use.
    • Participate in the development and implementation of building-level goals.
    • Attend and participate in required district in-service programs.
    • Stay current through professional staff development opportunities.
    • Share expertise and knowledge collaboratively with other staff.
    • Demonstrate punctuality and dependability.
    • Promote a positive attitude and enthusiasm toward education.
    • Develop and maintain positive and cooperative interactions and communication with

    school staff, clients, and the community.

    • Utilize established channels for handling routine procedures, resolving problems/concerns
    • and making suggestions
    • Implement Washington State Social Studies Learning Standards and district curriculum.
    • Promote civic engagement, historical inquiry, critical thinking, and analysis of primary and secondary sources.
    • Facilitate respectful discussion of multiple perspectives and current events in an inclusive learning environment.
    • Integrate reading, writing, speaking, and research skills into social studies instruction.
    • Utilize technology to enhance instruction and student engagement.
    • Prepare students for state assessments and graduation requirements, as applicable.
    • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
    • Analyze student data to inform instructional decisions.
    • Collaborate with special education, multilingual education, counselors, and intervention staff to support all learners.
    • Participate in MTSS and student intervention processes.
    • Demonstrate culturally responsive teaching practices that honor students' diverse backgrounds, languages, and experiences while fostering an inclusive learning environment.
    • Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information in accordance with federal and state laws.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
    • Experience working with multilingual learners.
    • Experience using instructional technology.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Secondary Social Studies/History Education Certification
    • Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following

    physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling,

    crouching, twisting, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job

    requires 35% sitting, 35% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under

    minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.
