We are seeking an exceptionally hungry, high-agency, low-ego Junior Software Engineer to join our fast-growing team. This role is designed specifically to take operational execution off the plates of our engineering leadership so they can focus on macro architecture and scaling challenges. We need someone who wants to ship real code, move incredibly fast, and absorb mentorship like a sponge.

We are highly open to two distinct archetypes for this hire:

  1. The Operator-Engineer: 2 to 4 years out of a top university, who perhaps climbed the initial rungs at a top-tier management consultancy (e.g., BCG, McKinsey, Bain) or rigorous tech company, paired with ~1 year of startup exposure. Wickedly organized, high-achieving, and looking to build.
  2. The Agentic Engineer: Young, sharp, self-directed, and exceptionally hungry. A developer who just needs a massive, high-stakes problem to point their skills at and the autonomy to execute.

About Us

The federal government spends over $700 billion a year hiring private companies to do critical work—from staffing healthcare facilities and maintaining military bases to supporting logistics and IT. Many of those contracts legally require employers to set aside money for employee benefits, earned hour by hour.

Today, most of that is managed through fragmented spreadsheets, disconnected legacy vendors, and compliance rules that are nearly impossible to navigate. Employers routinely overspend and risk catastrophic audits, while workers end up with benefits they can't use.

We are building the modern financial and compliance infrastructure for this massive market. Our platform helps employers track benefit dollars in real-time, maintain legal compliance, and manage healthcare, retirement, payroll, and reporting in a single, unified software platform.

Role Summary

As a Junior Engineer, you will drastically increase our team’s operational capacity and shipping velocity. You will work closely with senior engineers and product leaders on clearly defined tickets across the core platform, including bug fixes, feature extensions, integrations, tests, and product enhancements.

While you won’t be expected to architect major system components independently on day one, you will be trusted to take absolute ownership of scoped work, ask sharp questions, move with high urgency, and execute with flawless attention to detail. Because we are a small team, there is zero red tape. If you see something broken, you fix it.

What You'll Do

  • Ship Full-Stack Code: Build, test, and ship features across the front-end and back-end that our customers and internal teams rely on daily.
  • Data & API Integrations: Support payroll, benefits, and data partner workflows, including REST APIs, file-based exchanges, and third-party systems moving live data.
  • Core Workflow Optimization: Contribute to critical platform workflows—such as enrollment, compliance deductions, reporting, and related mathematical calculations—with extreme accuracy.
  • Bug Triaging & Debt Reduction: Debug, troubleshoot, and optimize existing features to help the team move faster and continuously reduce technical debt.
  • Testing & QA: Write robust tests for everything you ship, develop rigorous test cases, and ensure issues are caught long before they hit production.
  • Agile Collaboration: Actively participate in standups, sprint planning, and design discussions, transforming product requirements into working software in tight, two-week sprints.
  • Security & Compliance: Adhere strictly to HIPAA-aware engineering practices and handle sensitive data with care on every single ticket.

What You Bring

Must-Haves

  • Strong Programming Fundamentals: You write exceptionally clean, readable code. Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and/or a modern back-end language is preferred.
  • Core Technical Foundation: A firm understanding of data structures, Git, debugging, APIs, HTTP, JSON, and how relational databases communicate.
  • Web Dev Experience: Hands-on comfort maintaining or building web applications across the front end, back end, or both.
  • High Learnability: A rapid, adaptable learner who can map unfamiliar codebases, tools, and frameworks on the fly.
  • Problem-Solving Engine: The ability to break down ambiguous technical blockers, research independently, and possess the self-awareness to know exactly when to ask for help.
  • Extreme Ownership: You are deeply self-motivated, highly organized, and genuinely excited to build software inside a fast-moving, transparent startup environment.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React).
  • Familiarity with SQL, relational database management, and complex third-party integrations.
  • Exposure to cloud architecture (AWS) or modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • A side project, open-source repo, or technical deep-dive you built independently that you are genuinely proud of.
