Working with guidance from experienced engineers, this hands-on role will build foundational skills in application design, coding, testing, documentation, and production support for software used by internal teams, customers, and external partners.

The Junior Software Engineer will contribute to back-office applications, Windows Services, APIs, and Microsoft SQL Server data solutions that support Telguard cellular alarm communicators and the processing of alarm events from security and fire alarm systems. The role works with senior engineers and partners with Product Management, Quality Assurance, other engineering disciplines, Technical Support, Customer Service, and operational stakeholders.

PRIMARY IMPACT: Deliver and improve reliable .NET back-office applications and Windows Services through hands-on design, coding, testing, deployment, production support, and technical collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, enhance, test, and support maintainable and secure applications and services using C#, .NET, and .NET Core under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Contribute to Windows Services, back-office processing solutions, integrations, and RESTful APIs, including solutions that create or consume JSON and XML.
  • Deliver well-defined features and bug fixes through hands-on coding, participation in technical design and code reviews, testing, troubleshooting, and support for production issues.
  • Develop and maintain Microsoft SQL Server queries, stored procedures, and basic relational data solutions; learn to apply indexing and transaction practices with guidance.
  • Follow established software engineering standards for coding, source control, testing, security, logging, documentation, and supportability.
  • Assist with modernizing existing applications and services using current .NET and .NET Core technologies and established application patterns.
  • Work with Quality Assurance to execute test plans, improve automated test coverage, support release confidence, and prevent defects.
  • Contribute to technical quality throughout the delivery lifecycle by clarifying requirements, implementing approved designs, testing changes, supporting deployments, monitoring applications, and learning from incidents.
  • Use Azure Pipelines and Octopus Deploy according to established procedures to support builds, deployments, configuration, and environment promotion.
  • Seek and apply technical guidance, share knowledge gained, and participate constructively in design and code reviews.
  • Collaborate with engineers, Product Managers, and business stakeholders to understand product goals and operational needs and implement well-scoped technical solutions.
  • Learn to evaluate implementation alternatives and tradeoffs involving delivery speed, security, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
