    DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

    The Juvenile Case Manager is responsible for assisting the court in administering the court's juvenile docket and observing the court's orders in juvenile cases. This position will also perform a wide variety of specialized clerical duties including the initiation of processing and maintenance of legal documents, correspondence and statistics; provides information and assistance to the public. The Juvenile Case Manager works under the general supervision of the Municipal Court Administrator.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Design and implement systems and procedures under Municipal Court guidelines to ensure uniform and accurate juvenile/minor case management including docket settings, docket notifications, processing summons or subpoenas, coordinate courtroom activity, system updating, compliance case monitoring, and quality control.
    • Develop and maintain working relationships with the county, other courts, school officials, community service providers and city departments to develop and implement collaborative youth services.
    • Stay abreast of legislature and court procedures and training related to court duties, to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, primarily as it relates to juvenile/minor offenders.
    • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work independently and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
    • Conduct independent research of operational problems. To assist families with social service needs such as counseling, anger management and drug rehabilitation services.
    • Evaluate family needs through home, school, and office visits with participants and their families and keep informed of local resources to help families connect with local resources.
    • Keep supervisor informed of details affecting court practices or case reporting.
    • Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential function of this position, as is the ability to create and maintain professional, harmonious working relationships with others.
    • Act as liaison between the court, juvenile defendants and parents.
    • Notify defendants and parents of mandatory court appearance and penalties for failure to appear in court. Advise defendants of their rights and judicial procedures.
    • Explain terms of court orders to defendants and parents.
    • Prepare documents for Judge's signature and perform other related juvenile case and docket maintenance activities.
    • Monitor compliance with community service and payment plans.
    • File court or legal documents numerically as prescribed by court procedures.
    • Administer daily deposit and process web- based transactions and perform end of day balancing.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon assignment.
    • Must be able to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
    • Must be able to speak and communicate effectively in Spanish.
    • Must have experience in using a 10 key calculator by touch.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED & EXERCISED

    • Receives general supervision from the Municipal Court Administrator.
    • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

    Knowledge of:

    • Municipal Court organization, policies and procedures.
    • Legal forms, documents and terminology.
    • Modern office practices and equipment.
    • Specific use and application of Texas Criminal and Traffic Law Manual

    Ability to:

    • Ability to make decisions based on available data/criteria, laws and regulations, or city policy.
    • Maintain all juvenile case files, records, documents and plans related to the crime of offense committed.
    • Work with limited supervision.
    • Collect necessary data (i.e....incident/accident reports, community service compliance, provide list of alcohol awareness programs).
    • Work cooperatively with other employees, defendants, attorneys, victims, and the general public, often under stressful circumstances.
    • Communicate orally with defendants, attorneys, victims, coworkers, and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.

    Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, counseling or criminal justice or related field; and/or 2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Licenses, Certificates & Registrations:

    • Valid Class "C" Driver's License
    • Certified Court Clerk Level I or the ability to obtain certification within 2 years of hire and must be updated annually.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    The employee is regularly required to sit and use hands and fingers. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
