Position Overview
South Portland
This is paraprofessional support work as a working supervisor involving the interaction, care, security, treatment, and rehabilitation of juveniles committed to a correctional facility.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing direct care
- Modeling appropriate behavior, attitude, ethics, and morals
- Implementing rehabilitative, protective, treatment, and behavioral health programs and services
Employees in this classification:
- Provide leadership in evaluating and supervising Juvenile Program Workers
- Assist in educational programs
- Facilitate treatment groups
This role differs from traditional correctional officers, as its primary focus is on treatment, rehabilitation, and behavior modification of youth.
Work is performed under limited supervision.
Typical Duties- Direct, assign, and supervise Juvenile Program Workers and volunteers to ensure proper care, custody, and implementation of treatment plans
- Evaluate employee performance, document outcomes, and recommend personnel actions including promotions, discipline, or termination
- Support educational and vocational programs by assisting instructors and managing classroom behavior
- Implement and participate in individual and group treatment programs
- Document observations and prepare reports on resident behavior and progress
- De-escalate conflicts, redirect behavior, and guide residents toward appropriate conduct
- Serve as a mentor and role model to promote positive social development
- Supervise residents in maintaining living spaces to encourage responsibility and hygiene
- Participate in treatment team meetings and contribute to rehabilitation planning
- Apply intervention techniques to maintain safety and security
- Oversee searches and inspections to enforce compliance and prevent contraband
- Transport residents to court and appointments safely
- Participate in training, workshops, and staff meetings
- Ensure compliance with HR laws, policies, and practices including EEO, recruitment, discipline, and safety standards

Minimum Qualifications
To qualify, you must have:
- Education, training, and/or experience demonstrating knowledge of correctional programs and adolescent treatment
OR
- Experience supervising a team in a structured environment
Licensing/Certification Requirements
(Required prior to permanent status)
- Basic Corrections Certification
