Job Description:
The Juvenile Teaching Assistant supports the Education Department within a juvenile correctional facility by assisting with classroom instruction, student supervision, and daily educational activities. The Teaching Assistant may oversee the classroom in the absence of the classroom teacher and is responsible for maintaining a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.
This position monitors student attendance, behavior, assignments, and daily records while providing guidance and support to students in completing assigned coursework. The Teaching Assistant works closely with teachers, the School Principal, and other facility departments to support students' educational and developmental needs.
The position reports directly to the School Principal and performs assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise students in the classroom and maintain a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment.
Take and maintain accurate student attendance records.
Monitor student behavior and address issues in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
Monitor student assignments and provide appropriate guidance and assistance with coursework.
Implement daily and weekly lesson plans and classroom activities in the absence of the classroom teacher.
Monitor and maintain accurate daily student records and educational documentation.
Support classroom instruction and assist teachers with educational activities as needed.
Supervise students' daily work and monitor their progress and achievement.
Collaborate with teachers, facility staff, and other departments to promote a supportive learning environment.
Prepare clear, accurate, and concise written reports in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and provide relevant student information and observations.
Participate in faculty, professional, and departmental meetings as required.
Maintain confidentiality of student, facility, and departmental information.
Follow established policies and procedures during critical incidents to help prevent injury, escape, or property damage.
Operate educational and other job-related equipment safely and appropriately.
Maintain educational supplies, equipment, and classroom materials.
Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, staff, contractors, interns, volunteers, and applicable community agencies.
Maintain a professional and positive image when interacting with students, staff, and the public.
Attend and successfully complete all required training and certifications.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when working with students.
Ability to accept supervision, direction, and constructive feedback.
Ability to maintain and properly use educational supplies, equipment, and tools.
Ability to successfully complete all required training and certifications.
Must meet applicable facility requirements, including successful completion of required drug screening.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
