K-12 art teacher using the Michigan Merit Curriculum: Visual Arts to support students as they apply skills and knowledge to perform, create, evaluate arts. An art teacher will also be responsible for supporting students' understanding, analyzing, and describing the arts in their historical, social, and cultural contexts while also connecting the arts to other mediums, other disciplines, and everyday life.
Required Professional Preparation and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Current Michigan Teaching Certificate
- Excellent communication skills
- Willingness to collaborate with others
- Strong sense of empathy
- Drive to help students succeed.
Preferred Professional Preparation and Experience:
Major Responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare learning activities and guide students towards the achievement of curriculum and district objectives
- Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history,
- Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art
- Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting
- Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art
- Knows the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media technique
- Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment
- Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
- Evaluate each student's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports
- Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students' work for the school and the community
Additional Responsibilities:
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
