District/Organization: Walkerville Public Schools

Position/Type: Teacher, full time

Position Details

WALKERVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Now Hiring: K-12 Specials Teacher

Art • Music • Digital Innovation | Full-Time, Internal & External Posting

Walkerville Public Schools is hiring a full-time K-12 Specials Teacher. This is a unique opportunity for a creative, versatile educator to shape our specials program - teaching elementary specials (art, music, and/or digital innovation) and a small slate of middle and high school electives. We're modernizing this role to fit today's classroom: alongside traditional art and music, we welcome candidates who bring skills in digital media, STEAM, robotics, or educational technology. Tell us your strengths, and we'll help shape the course assignment around them.

What You'll Do

  • Teach engaging, standards-aligned specials classes to K-5 students on a rotating schedule.
  • Design and teach 1-2 middle/high school electives suited to your background - for example, Studio Art, Band/Music Performance, Digital Media & Design, Makerspace/Engineering, Music Technology, or Intro to Coding.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, families, and the Building Principal to connect specials instruction to the broader curriculum.
  • Help lead a school concert, art show, or showcase event each year, where applicable to your subject area.
  • Bring fresh ideas to keep the specials program current, relevant, and fun for students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education (or related field) and a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
  • At least one of the following Michigan endorsements: Music Education (JQ, K-12), Visual Arts Education (LQ, K-12), or Educational Technology (NP, K-8/6-12). Art or music endorsements are preferred, but we're glad to consider strong candidates in educational technology, STEAM, or a related area.
  • Additional endorsements in a Core Academic Area, Business/Technology (GQ), or Industrial Technology (TE) are a plus and may expand the elective offerings you can teach.
  • Experience successfully instructing at-risk populations.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with teachers, parents, and students.
  • Comfortable with technology and able to meet deadlines.
