This role is an opportunity to embody these values while leading and shaping a culture of literacy for K-3 students and staff.
We are seeking a passionate, reflective, and dynamic Early Literacy Coach who embodies these beliefs to support, inspire, and elevate literacy practices across all grade levels. This coach will work closely with teachers, administrators, and literacy coordinator to develop a strong, cohesive system of literacy instruction aligned with best practices and state expectations.
Position Summary
The focus of the coach's role is to build educator capacity and strengthen explicit and systematic instruction in science-based early literacy.
Key Responsibilities
Build educator capacity in science-based early literacy instruction, emphasizing explicit and systematic practices and excluding three-cueing approaches
Engage in continuous improvement coaching cycles to strengthen classroom instruction and student literacy outcomes
Study and analyze current classroom literacy practices to identify strengths and areas for growth
Collaborate with school and district leaders to select and prioritize evidence-based literacy practices, with attention to reducing achievement disparities
Design and facilitate professional learning to support effective implementation of selected instructional practices
Provide job-embedded coaching to educators through one-on-one and small group support
Conduct classroom visits to gather instructional data and guide next steps in coaching cycles
Support sustained implementation until practices are consistently and effectively used across classrooms
Partner with school and district leaders to develop and strengthen a Multi-Level System of Support (MLSS) for early literacy
Align coaching work with broader school and district initiatives, including school improvement planning and special education requirements
Collaborate with regional and state-supported systems (e.g., CESAs, WiMLSS, Technical Assistance Network) to enhance literacy outcomes
Collect, analyze, and submit monthly data and evidence to demonstrate progress toward coaching goals and state requirements
Required Qualifications
Hold current or able to obtain a Wisconsin DPI Reading Specialist license (#17/5017).
Proven knowledge and application of effective literacy instruction K-3, including foundational skills, disciplinary literacy, and intervention practices.
Strong understanding of adult learning theory and professional development delivery.
Experience in instructional coaching, facilitation, and leadership in literacy development.
Ability to build trusting relationships and lead through collaboration and influence.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in coordinating or implementing state-level mandates such as Act 20.
Familiarity with data-driven decision making and MTSS frameworks.
Background in Visible Learning, Science of Reading, or structured literacy practices.
Terms of Employment:
Full-time, 9 month teaching contract
