    Position Overview:

    The Kâ8 Music/Band Teacher provides comprehensive music education to students in grades Kâ8, including general music instruction and beginning/intermediate band. The teacher fosters students' musical skills, creativity, and appreciation for music while creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment.

    SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Plan and deliver standards-based music instruction for Kâ8 students, including general music and instrumental band
    • Teach foundational music concepts such as rhythm, melody, harmony, notation, and music history
    • Provide instruction in instrumental techniques for band students (e.g., brass, woodwinds, percussion)
    • Select and prepare appropriate repertoire for performances and skill development
    • Organize and direct school concerts, recitals, and performances
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and varying skill levels
    • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
    • Maintain inventory, care, and organization of musical instruments and equipment
    • Integrate technology and creative approaches into music instruction
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers, staff, and administration to support school programs
    • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and events
    • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school activities

    • Ability to engage students through creative, interactive music instruction
    • Strong conducting and rehearsal skills
    • Knowledge of instrumental pedagogy and ensemble development
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills
    • Ability to motivate and inspire students of varying skill levels
    • Organizational skills for managing performances, equipment, and schedules

    GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Understand and support the mission and vision of the MOT Charter School.
    • Maintain a high degree of flexibility and adaptability to changing needs and situations.
    • Utilize online resources for instruction and communication.
    • Serve as a positive role model for students and professionals alike.
    • Work cooperatively with other faculty, staff, and administrators to support the school's objectives.
    • Proactively contribute to a positive school climate.
    • Develop and maintain positive relations within the school community, as well as with stakeholders outside the school community.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music
    • Valid state teaching certification/license (Music Education or equivalent)
    • Proficiency in vocal and instrumental music, including basic knowledge of band instruments
    • Experience working with children in a classroom or instructional setting
    • Strong classroom management and organizational skills

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's degree in Music Education or related field
    • Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school music and band
    • Ability to teach multiple instruments and ensemble types
    • Experience directing performances or school music programs
    • Familiarity with national/state music standards (e.g., NAfME standards)

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Classroom and rehearsal space environment
    • Requires standing, conducting, and active movement during instruction
    • Occasional evening/weekend responsibilities for concerts and events
    • May involve lifting or moving instruments and equipment
