Description

Mental Health Kokua (MHK) is hiring a Kauhale Manager in Honolulu, Oahu to lead daily operations within our Iwilei Kauhale community serving adults living with serious mental illness. This full-time, on-site leadership role brings together behavioral health services, staff supervision, resident support, program operations, safety, facility coordination, and community partnerships.

As Kauhale Manager, you’ll lead a team while helping ensure residents receive respectful, recovery-oriented services in a safe and well-managed community. This role is ideal for a Licensed Social Worker who enjoys hands-on leadership, problem-solving, and working collaboratively with residents, staff, service providers, and community partners. Eligible employees pursuing LCSW licensure may also receive free clinical supervision hours.

 

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Program Operations: Oversee day-to-day Kauhale operations, including occupancy, resident orientation, program fees, unit assignments, inspections, vacancies, and service coordinationTeam Leadership: Supervise, coach, and support Kauhale staff while coordinating daily workflows and promoting accountability, collaboration, and quality servicesResident Services: Help ensure residents are connected with behavioral health, case management, benefits, and community-based services that support recovery, stability, and independenceSafety & Crisis Response: Maintain a safe environment, provide leadership during resident or facility emergencies, and ensure appropriate follow-up and incident reportingRecovery-Oriented Support: Promote person-centered, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented practices throughout the Kauhale communityCommunity & Systems Coordination: Collaborate with Partners in Care, HMIS, CES, MHK teams, service providers, and community agencies to coordinate services and support resident needsDocumentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate program records and support required documentation, reporting, quality, and program complianceFacility Coordination: Monitor maintenance, repairs, supplies, vendor needs, and facility conditions to support a clean, safe, and well-functioning communityCommunity Partnerships: Build and maintain positive relationships with community organizations, local businesses, government partners, and other stakeholders

 

Kauhale Manager Qualifications

  • Required: Current Licensed Social Worker (LSW) credentialPreferred Education: Master of Social Work (MSW) or bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related fieldPreferred Experience: Three (3) or more years of experience in behavioral health, community-based services, case management, program operations, or services supporting adults with serious mental illnessLeadership Skills: Strong leadership, staff supervision, communication, organization, problem-solving, crisis response, and relationship-building skillsTechnical Skills: Strong documentation and computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with HMIS, NextStep, or similar systems preferredCertifications: TB clearance, CPR, and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and alcohol/drug screeningAbility to work on-site in Honolulu, HI and respond to after-hours or urgent program needs when necessaryAbility to respond appropriately to emergencies and challenging situations in a community-based settingAbility to lift up to 25 lbs and perform the physical requirements of the position
