Requirements:
- No formal education required; high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Prior experience in cleaning, customer service, animal care (kennel or shelter environment), or other physically active work is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and animal housing areas on a daily basis
- Remove waste and soiled materials to maintain a safe and hygienic environment
- Perform routine facility cleaning, including floors, walls, laundry, dishes, and common areas
- Maintain both indoor and outdoor areas in all weather conditions
- Monitor animal areas for cleanliness and report any health or behavioral concerns to staff
- Assist with safe animal handling as needed for cleaning and movement of animals
- Maintain outdoor runs, play yards, and shelter grounds
- Follow established sanitation, safety, and disease control protocols
- Stock, organize, and properly use cleaning supplies and equipmentLoad, unload, and move supplies such as food donations and materials as needed
- Complete physically demanding tasks including lifting, bending, standing for long periods, and repetitive cleaning duties
- Work independently and efficiently to complete daily task lists
- Support overall shelter operations by ensuring a consistently clean, organized, and safe environment
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry 50+ lbs on a regular basis
- Ability to handle animals of various sizes and strength levels
- Must be able to perform strenuous work in a fast-paced environment, both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
The Kennel Attendant plays an essential role in the daily operation of the shelter by helping maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for all animals. This position supports the overall mission by ensuring kennels and common areas (indoors and outdoors) are properly cleaned and maintained, which directly impacts the health, comfort, and well-being of the animals in our care.
By keeping the facility in good condition, the Kennel Attendant helps prevent the spread of illness, reduces stress for the animals, and supports a positive environment for staff and visitors. This role is critical to the organization, as a well-maintained shelter allows for better care, improved outcomes, and a stronger overall operation.
