PLACEMENT: General Education

PRIMARY ASSIGNEMNT: Kindergarten Classroom Paraprofessional

LOCATION: Bird Elementary School

HOURS: Monday-Friday

37.5 hours week

8:30am - 4:30pm

Classroom Learning Support and Supervisory

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • An Associate Degree in child development (preferred)
  • Experience working with children in a school setting preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children, staff, public and families
  • Knowledge of Child Development
  • Knowledge of Early Literacy and Numeracy Development
  • Knowledge and awareness of Culturally Responsive Practices
  • Ability to support behavior of students with a focus on teaching behaviors
  • Knowledge and awareness of Social Emotional Competencies
  • Familiarity with de-escalation and redirection techniques
  • Good communication skills
  • Good attendance record

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support students in the classroom with learning experiences and activities
  • Functions under the direction of the classroom teacher and supports students with classroom instruction throughout the day
  • Leads specific individual or small group learning activities as assigned by the teacher
  • Supports student behavior through redirection, modeling, direct teaching and positive reinforcement
  • Collects data for MTSS and progress monitoring data related to behavior and academics as needed
  • Engages in supporting students in practicing problem solving, creative thinking and social interactions with peers
  • Engages with students through interaction and conversation to support cognitive, social emotional, physical and language development
  • Assists students during specials classes with learning and behavior support
  • Provides opportunities for movement, sensory breaks or other integration activities to support individual student needs
  • Participates in group activities to model behavior, direction and visual support to students
  • Assists and supervises elementary students during arrival, dismissal and lunch, including outdoors and the lunchroom as assigned by supervisor
  • Bending, lifting and overhead work required
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Provides clinic/first aid/medication support to students

RATE OF PAY: $17.18 per hour

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.

The fingerprinting is conducted by a third party and is at the expense of the applicant. Cost for fingerprinting is approximately $70.00.
