Description

Lorenzo ISD is seeking a dedicated and student-centered educator to serve as a Kindergarten Teacher. The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education and committed to building strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development. This position includes implementation of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM), including Bluebonnet Learning in Math and RLA, supported through the district's participation in the LASO 4 grant initiative.

Primary Purpose

Provide students with developmentally appropriate learning activities and experiences that support intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Build foundational skills necessary for success in school through structured, engaging, and student-centered instruction.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Strategies and Classroom Environment

  • Internalize and implement lesson plans aligned to TEKS and district curriculum, including Bluebonnet Learning HQIM for Math and RLA.
  • Deliver structured, engaging instruction using developmentally appropriate strategies for early learners.
  • Establish and maintain a highly structured classroom environment with clear routines, expectations, and procedures.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including small group and targeted support.
  • Collaborate with staff, including special education teachers, to meet individual student needs.

Early Literacy and Numeracy Development

  • Provide explicit instruction in foundational literacy skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension aligned to the Science of Teaching Reading (STR).
  • Support development of early math skills, including number sense, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning.
  • Use hands-on, interactive learning experiences to support concept development and student engagement.

Student Learning and Assessment

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement using formative, interim, and summative measures.
  • Use data-driven instruction cycles to adjust teaching and support student growth.
  • Provide targeted intervention and enrichment through small group instruction and tiered supports (RTI/MTSS).
  • Communicate student progress regularly with parents and stakeholders.

HQIM & LASO 4 Implementation

  • Implement Bluebonnet Learning instructional materials with fidelity, including lesson internalization, pacing, and use of embedded assessments.
  • Participate in LASO 4-supported professional development, coaching cycles, and PLCs.
  • Engage in collaborative planning and continuous improvement focused on student outcomes.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for young learners' developmental needs.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Establish routines that support independence, responsibility, and positive behavior.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation.

Communication and Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain open and professional communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff development, and campus meetings.
  • Support campus initiatives and contribute to a positive school culture.
  • Comply with all district, state, and federal policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

One of the following is required:

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate (e.g., Core Subjects EC-6 or EC-6 Generalist)

OR

  • Currently enrolled in a state-approved educator preparation program and must provide a Statement of Eligibility (SOE) prior to hire

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of early childhood development and instructional practices
  • Knowledge of foundational literacy and the Science of Teaching Reading (STR)
  • Ability to instruct young students and manage classroom behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience

  • Student teaching, internship, or related experience preferred
