Join the Dietary team at Honoka’a Hospital, a Critical Access Hospital serving the local community on Hawaii Island. As a Kitchen Helper, you’ll play an important role in ensuring patients, residents, and employees receive safe, nutritious, and well-prepared meals each day. Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with daily food preparation, including cleaning and cutting vegetables, preparing salads, desserts, fruits, beverages, snacks, and foods according to patient diet orders and required food consistencies.
• Help assemble and deliver patient meal trays and food carts, ensuring meals are prepared accurately and delivered to the appropriate patient/resident areas.
• Support cafeteria food service, including working at the steam table and assisting with serving meals.
• Maintain accurate patient census and diet order information to help ensure appropriate quantities are prepared and minimize food waste.
• Wash and sanitize dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment; operate the commercial dishwashing machine and routinely clean kitchen appliances and work areas.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, confidentiality, hospital policies, and applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements while working cooperatively with the Dietary team.

  • Basic knowledge of food preparation, kitchen safety, and sanitation practices
  • Ability to learn kitchen equipment operation and quantity food preparation
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and hygiene standards

Pre-Employment Health Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen.  The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

Shift Details

Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary based on hospital operations. Services are provided 24/7.
