Contract Details
- Work Mode: Remote, or Hybrid if within 30 miles of Herndon, VA (on-site 3 days/week; may change based on business needs)

About the Opportunity
This role is a hands-on Platform Architect position focused on designing and optimizing Kubernetes-based platforms and containerized application environments across major cloud providers. You will partner with engineering, security, and operations teams to define standards and best practices for modern SDLC, while producing clear architecture documentation and providing subject matter leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and optimize Kubernetes platforms and containerized application environments on AWS, GCP, and/or Azure.
- Evaluate and implement platform technologies, tools, and frameworks to support modern SDLC practices.
- Establish and evangelize platform standards, patterns, and best practices across cloud environments.
- Develop architecture diagrams, runbooks, standards, and implementation guides.
- Serve as SME for Kubernetes, containerization, SDLC, and hyperscaler services; mentor and guide cross-functional teams.
- Deliver clear presentations and communications to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Participate in design reviews, technical assessments, and proofs of concept for new capabilities.
- Continuously improve the software delivery pipeline (build, test, deploy, operate) with emphasis on reliability, security, and compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Strong, hands-on production experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
- Expertise with containerization (e.g., Docker) and related tooling.
- Deep understanding of AWS/GCP/Azure native services (networking, security, IAM, storage, compute, managed services).
- Solid grasp of SDLC practices, including CI/CD pipelines, version control, testing, and release management.
- Proven ability to produce clear, comprehensive technical and architecture documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to present complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Track record as an SME collaborating effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.
- US Citizenship required; no dual citizens.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in regulated, secure, or mission-critical environments (e.g., public sector, defense).
- Familiarity with cloud-native patterns and technologies (service mesh, observability, secrets management).
- Automation and Infrastructure as Code experience (e.g., Helm, Terraform, Ansible).
Work Environment
Role offers remote flexibility; candidates within 30 miles of Herndon, VA should expect hybrid on-site presence 3 days/week (subject to change based on business needs).
