Job Description: Lab Assistant – 1st Shift
Job Title: Lab Assistant – 1st Shift
Location: Miramar, FL
Duration: 6+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift Timing: Tuesday – Saturday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Job Summary
The Lab Assistant is responsible for performing routine laboratory functions with precision and accuracy to support laboratory operations and assist professional staff. This role contributes to efficient workflow by handling specimen processing, equipment maintenance, and general lab support activities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Sort and receive specimens within the laboratory department.
- Perform routine maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Execute laboratory tasks, including:
- Centrifugation of specimens
- Printing and labeling samples
- Recording data (e.g., temperature logs)
- Specimen storage and retrieval
- Prepare reagents and/or media as required.
- Prepare specimens for testing, including:
- Building worklists
- Aliquoting specimens into sample containers
- Inspecting specimens for clots or fibrin
- Performing inoculation and slide preparation
- Carry out QA/QC duties as assigned.
- Manage and resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
- Maintain cleanliness by decontaminating work areas.
- Conduct weekly radioactive wipe tests in compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain departmental records and documentation.
- Replace and manage gas cylinders as required.
- Ensure compliance with PPE standards and all safety regulations.
- Operate laboratory computer systems and standard PC applications.
- Safely dispose of biohazardous materials per guidelines.
- Complete all required training and competency assessments.
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Medical Assistant training is a plus
- Background in math and science preferred
