Job Description

Compensation: $18.25 - $27.00 per hour (Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.)

The Impact You Can Make

As a Laboratory Assistant, you are the critical backbone of our healthcare team and the first step toward accurate patient care. Every sample you process, every phone call you answer, and every blood draw you perform directly affects a patient's diagnosis and treatment plan. Your attention to detail ensures that doctors receive accurate results quickly, while your calm, reassuring presence can completely transform a stressful hospital visit into a positive experience for a nervous patient. You aren't just handling paperwork and test tubes; you are actively keeping the hospital moving and helping save lives behind the scenes every single day.

Why You'll Love This Job

  • Choose your tier: Start at Level I and get paid more as you learn Levels II and III.
  • No medical experience needed: We offer on-the-job training.
  • Clear career path: Great stepping stone for nursing, pre-med, or biology students.

What You'll Do (Train in 1, 2, or all 3 areas):

  • Customer Service: Answer phones, look up lab results, and help patients.
  • Phlebotomy: Learn to safely draw blood samples from patients.
  • Specimen Processing: Prep blood, urine, and tissue samples for the testing lab.
  • Data Entry: Enter patient info into the lab computer system. (All Lab Assistant Positions)

Qualifications We Look For:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Fast typing skills and comfortable using computers
  • Calm under pressure and completely comfortable with the sight of blood
  • Friendly, professional, and clear when talking to patients
  • Experience (Bonus): Past retail, fast food, customer service, or phlebotomy skills are a plus!

About Company

Glens Falls Hospital is the largest hospital between Albany, NY, and Montreal, Canada, and the comprehensive health care system for New York's Warren, Washington, northern Saratoga, Essex, Hamilton and northern Rensselaer counties. In addition to our main acute care hospital campus, we operate 29 regional health care facilities, including health centers in the communities of Cambridge, Corinth, Granville, Greenwich, Hoosick Falls, Salem, Whitehall and Wilton. Simply put, our not-for-profit hospital provides a health care safety net for individuals and families from the immediate Glens Falls area to smaller, geographically remote communities tucked away in the heart of the six-million-acre Adirondack Park. Recognizing the Hospital's importance to the wellbeing of this broad, far-flung population, the Hospital's volunteer Board of Governors and our administrative and medical staffs have worked diligently over the years to recruit outstanding physicians and provide local people with a broad scope of services and expertise that would otherwise not be available without traveling to more distant cities. We have more than 225 affiliated physicians, ranging from primary care practitioners to surgical subspecialists. Our physicians are board-certified in more than 25 specialties. We have also established a diverse array of community outreach programs, bringing our expertise and services to people in outlying portions of our service area. These outreach programs are especially important for low-income individuals and families who may otherwise fail to seek out health care due to financial or transportation concerns. Our objective is to prevent health care problems and detect existing conditions earlier, keeping local people healthier and reducing future medical costs.
