Description We are currently seeking a Phlebotomist / Lab Assistant to join our team. Under general supervision, performs work which involves collecting laboratory specimens on clinic patients of all ages. Enters data into the electronic health record. Interacts and communicates with patients, their families, and members of the healthcare team by using various communication tools in a timely and professional manner. The lab assistant is responsible for performing venipunctures and finger sticks, processing medical laboratory tests and documenting results for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. This role will be supporting the entire MCC sites. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. + Collect specimens according to established procedures. + Responsible for obtaining blood specimens from patients per provider orders by performing venipunctures and finger sticks. + Research test/client information and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders by utilizing electronic systems, Client contact, and approved tools. + Responsible for following laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. + Accountable for understanding and adhering to quality control policies per CLIA regulations. This includes documenting all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations. + Accountable for identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and must either correct the problem or immediately notify the Clinic Manager. + Accountable for identifying critical lab test results and documenting all critical lab procedures. + Responsible for knowing, or having access to, specimen requirements, turnaround times and resulting information as requested by providers. + Responsible for knowing, understanding and following specimen transportation timelines for STAT and regular pick up. + Accountable for ordering and maintaining adequate laboratory supplies, as well as cleaning and maintaining the laboratory including equipment. + Ability to navigate a computer and accurately enter data is a requirement to be successful in this role. + Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures. + Assist with the compilation and submission of statistics and data when required. + Complete online and in-person training courses in a timely manner. + Travel to other MCC sites if required. + Restocking rooms and checking for and removing expired items as needed. + Responsible for communicating with and assisting patients in a professional and courteous manner. + Charged with serving as a back-up for clinical team members as needed. + Other duties as assigned. Work Environment Primary environment is clinical setting. This role requires regular walking. This is a direct patient care role and you may come into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This full-time (1.0 FTE) role will work M-F with the possibility of every other Saturday (8am-12pm). This role will help support all of our locations and is not tied to just one site. Physical Demands + Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. + Prolonged periods of standing + Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. Travel Requirements Must have the ability to travel between MCC sites in the St. Paul/Minneapolis metro area if needed. This role supports operations across all locations. Required Education and Experience + Phlebotomy Certification required + High School Diploma or equivalent + Keyboard/data entry required + Completion of Medical Assistant Program or Phlebotomy Program Preferred Education and Experience + At least one year of phlebotomy experience preferred + Experience working with diverse population + MA certification (CMA/RMA) or CPT + Previous experience working in a lab and performing diagnostic tests and phlebotomy + Experience working in a multi-site environment is preferred.
