Job Description

The Lab Assistant supports day-to-day laboratory operations by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and performing routine processing and documentation activities in a controlled environment. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate, efficient, and compliant laboratory workflows while offering strong growth opportunities within a highly regarded organization.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain laboratory glassware to ensure it is ready and safe for use.
  • Defat raw materials by pulling ether and acetone, drying materials, and accurately weighing them according to established procedures.
  • Perform routine calibration and verification of laboratory instruments and equipment following standard operating procedures.
  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain laboratory equipment, workstations, and controlled work areas to meet quality and safety standards.
  • Document calibration activities, maintenance records, and cleaning logs accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Set up, operate, and clean equipment used for aseptic processing, maintaining aseptic technique throughout operations.
  • Perform dialysis activities, including filling bags and emptying and cleaning dialysis tanks.
  • Operate a Bock centrifuge for processing molds and inhalant-related materials, ensuring proper handling and cleaning.
  • Prepare laboratory solutions and reagents according to specified formulas and procedures.
  • Handle FTQ paperwork distribution and support inventory control requirements to ensure proper documentation and stock levels.
  • Complete routine laboratory chores such as maintaining scales, freezers, pH meters, pass-through areas, nitrogen supplies, and lab room assignments.
  • Perform freeze-drying activities, including loading, reconstitution, and cleaning of related equipment.
  • Operate the Amicon DC-10 system for standard cat pelt use and related processing tasks.
  • Operate the DPR-6000 centrifuge in accordance with laboratory procedures.
  • Use a ball mill for mite processing and related sample preparation tasks.
  • Perform dilution and compounding activities as directed, following precise measurements and procedures.
  • Perform SAP-related duties such as COR6N and goods movements to support material tracking and inventory processes.
  • Successfully complete PST media fills and full training to become cross-trained into aseptic filling operations.
  • Assist with tasks related to biology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical, biopharma, biological science, production, compounding, and related processing as assigned.
  • Complete any other assigned duties that support laboratory operations and manufacturing processes while maintaining compliance with internal and external standards.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a physical science or laboratory-related field.
  • Strong ability to follow detailed procedures for cleaning, calibration, and laboratory processing.
  • Comfort working with laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, freeze dryers, dialysis systems, and ball mills.
  • Ability to document activities accurately and maintain organized records for calibration, maintenance, and cleaning.
  • Go-getter attitude with a strong growth mentality and willingness to learn new processes.
  • Capability to perform SAP-related tasks such as COR6N and goods movements, or willingness to learn these systems.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a controlled laboratory environment handling raw materials and allergens.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when preparing solutions, reagents, and performing compounding and dilution tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Biopharma experience is a plus.
  • Experience in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical, biopharma, or related laboratory disciplines is advantageous.
  • Open to candidates without a college degree who have at least 1+ years of experience working in a laboratory-type setting.
  • Familiarity with aseptic processing and aseptic filling operations is beneficial.
  • Experience with production, compounding, and biological sample processing is desirable.

Work Environment

This role is based in a laboratory and manufacturing environment where you will work with allergens as part of routine processing; candidates must be able to safely work with allergens due to potential exposure during manufacturing. The lab uses a variety of specialized equipment, including centrifuges (such as Bock centrifuge and DPR-6000), freeze dryers, dialysis systems, ball mills, and the Amicon DC-10 system, as well as standard laboratory instruments like scales, pH meters, and freezers. Work is performed in controlled work areas that require consistent cleaning, sanitization, and adherence to aseptic and safety procedures. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with training provided on the assigned shift. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
