QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- No license required, prefer PBT(ASCP)
- 6 months as a phlebotomist or completion of a one semester coursein phlebotomy.
- Good communication skills, ability to prioritize and maintain professional in stressful situations.
- Must maintain Basic Life Safety (BLS) certification
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs phlebotomy correctly on all age patients, using 2 patient identifiers according to Hospital policy.
- Performs waived testing within the appropriate time frame, adhering to specific turnaround times for test ordered.
- Properly handles unacceptable specimens and performs testing only on specimens that conform to guidelines stated in laboratory manual. Documents unacceptable specimens and notifies proper staff.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of the laboratory computer system and its functionality and can perform tasks correctly.
- Appropriate utilization supplies and reagents. Participate in weekly inventory.
- Performs and records all required Quality Control, taking appropriate action as needed and alerting management as necessary.
- Resolves pending specimen issues, troubleshoots problems.
