Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • No license required, prefer PBT(ASCP)
  • 6 months as a phlebotomist or completion of a one semester coursein phlebotomy.
  • Good communication skills, ability to prioritize and maintain professional in stressful situations.
  • Must maintain Basic Life Safety (BLS) certification                                                

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs phlebotomy correctly on all age patients, using 2 patient identifiers according to Hospital policy.  
  2. Performs waived testing within the appropriate time frame, adhering to specific turnaround times for test ordered.
  3. Properly handles unacceptable specimens and performs testing only on specimens that conform to guidelines stated in laboratory manual. Documents unacceptable specimens and notifies proper staff.
  4. Maintains a thorough knowledge of the laboratory computer system and its functionality and can perform tasks correctly. 
  5. Appropriate utilization supplies and reagents. Participate in weekly inventory.
  6. Performs and records all required Quality Control, taking appropriate action as needed and alerting management as necessary.
  7.   Resolves pending specimen issues, troubleshoots problems.

  • The employee must be able to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis and be able to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.
  • The employee must be able to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day.
