Overview:
Position oversees a scheduled on campus lab experience for the surgical technology program.
Position will average 15 to 20 hours per week during academic year, flexible hours based on availability.
Responsibilities:
Lab Maintenance and Preparation:
- Assemble and maintain instruments, supplies, and equipment for lab sessions.
- Ensure that all surgical instruments and supplies are properly stored and organized.
- Set up lab stations for student practice sessions, ensuring that all necessary materials are available and in working order.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized lab environment, including regular cleaning and restocking of supplies.
Student Support:
- Assist first-year students with practicing fundamental surgical technologist skills, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Demonstrate proper techniques for handling instruments, setting up sterile fields, and other key skills.
- Offer feedback and encouragement to students, helping to build their confidence and competence.
Inventory and Supply Management:
- Monitor inventory levels of lab supplies and surgical instruments, notifying the Lab Coordinator when items need to be reordered.
- Assist in receiving and organizing new supplies, ensuring that they are properly stored and accounted for.
- Maintain accurate records of supplies and equipment usage.
Administrative Duties:
- Perform administrative tasks as assigned by the Lab Coordinator or Program Director, such as scheduling lab sessions, preparing instructional materials, and maintaining student records.
- Assist in organizing and coordinating special lab events, workshops, and simulations.
Other Duties:
- Participate in lab meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices and program expectations.
- Collaborate with other lab assistants and faculty members to ensure a positive and productive learning environment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education Requirements:
- Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
AND
- Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a healthcare or lab environment or operating room.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
