Job Description

Performs clinical laboratory procedures, examinations and other tests, inclusive of all laboratory responsibilities including but not limited to blood bank, pursuant to established protocols including maintaining equipment and records, and performing quality assurance activities related to examination performance requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility.

Job Responsibility

"• Sets-up and performs a variety of routine and/or complex laboratory tests and procedures relevant to the particular lab area and personal qualifications. Prepares and tests specimens for examination and reports results. • Follows established in-process quality control procedures including recording data. • Performs routine and/or preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment. • Troubleshoots basic instrumentation, culture media, chemicals, reagents, stains, solutions, technical problems and methodologies. • Prioritizes and processes samples and performs various lab/blood bank functions as elaborated in the Policy and Procedure manual. • Observes and evaluates test results, and records necessary data on laboratory reports and notifies supervisory staff in time related to problems. • Issues blood components on timely basis following established guidelines. • Under supervision, may perform a variety of teaching duties related to training of students, new employees, etc., and participates in ongoing education assignments. • Maintains sufficient supplies at work station. • Ensures and maintains quality control and assurance activities. • Uses Infection Control practices and procedures. • Performs related duties, as required. Job Qualification

  • Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology, Basic Science or related field, required. Licensed by New York State Education Department as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year work experience and/or training specific to the work being done in the area noted above, required.
  • Clinical Lab Generalist experience preferred
