Overview

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, performs clerical duties-printing, charting, mailing, faxing and filing of reports, accessioning of Pathology/Cytology specimens, answering telephone, registering patients and order entry tasks. Duties include assuring accurate charges, and billing information. Receives incoming calls and disperses to appropriate departments. Orders Pathology and Cytology in computer and maintains appropriate records. Sends and receives reports by fax. Checks for failed faxes in the computer. Admits patients into the computer and orders tests. Maintains good atmosphere between patients and laboratory. Directs out-patients with written requests to collection area. Checks charges, scans, indexes and prints reports. Addresses denials due to lack of medical necessity via follow-up with physician offices for additional

Qualifications

Prefer high school diploma or equivalent. (i.e. GED)

1 to 2 months on-the-job training under supervision is the usual way in which the technique and procedures are learned.

Competency of components of laboratory procedures, as appropriate.

Good general condition.

Verbal ability to communicate with patients and other clientele instructions and other information.

Numerical ability to calculate by formula.

Form perception, finger dexterity to handle paper work and keyboards.

Dependable.
