Responsibilities:

The Laboratory Clerk performs clerical duties for the laboratory such as answering telephones, faxing and accepting verbal orders for new and add-on test. Verify patient charges, verify insurance if applicable and review the PI Sheet (Personal Information Sheet) with the laboratory requisitions. Performs customer service functions and preparing the requisitions for outpatients and inpatients using the laboratory computer system. Other duties include, but are not limited to, filing patient reports, retrieving patient results for physician, and processing requisitions for send out to the reference lab. The Laboratory Clerk should demonstrate adequate knowledge of laboratory test terminology and patient preparation requirements. This person should demonstrate good telephone etiquette and able to greet patients and other visitors in a polite and friendly manner. Good communication skills are required. Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.

Qualifications:

1.  High school diploma or equivalent required

2.  Previous medical office or hospital laboratory related experience preferred
