Lab Clinical Tech - Clinical Laboratory Services


St. John's Regional Medical Center


We are seeking a highly motivated Lab Clinical Tech. As a Lab Clinical Tech you will actively participate as a team member in the systems, functions and activities of the unit/department. Other duties associated with clinical lab functions are clerical in nature, including, but not limited to such acts as patient registration, telephone communication, filing, sorting, distribution, typing, data entry and frequent use of laboratory computer system(s) to process specimens. Verifies eligibility, benefits, authorization requirements, PCP approval, and billing requirements as appropriate. May work out of various patient service centers. Use of personal vehicles may be required.


+ Carries out correct procedure for blood testing. (Drawing labeling and transporting to Laboratory).

+ Uses patients bar-coded label or requisition slip and patients armband to correctly identify patients first and last name as well as MR and or Visit # date of birth and mothers name on newborns to insure accurate patient identification.

+ Prioritizes STAT TIMED and ROUTINE draws and transports accordingly to meet turnaround times.

+ Responds to all requests and pages in a timely manner consistent with laboratory policies.

+ Follows all OSHA and CAP requirements in performance of job.

+ Maintains the appropriate stock level of supplies in work area and for procedures before leaving end of shift.


Qualifications


+ Six (6) months recent hospital experience as a Clinical Technician / Phlebotomist required.

+ Must have a High School education

+ Successful completion of the State of California approved Phlebotomy Training Program

+ Phlebotomy License required. (CT Phlebot Lic)

+ American Heart Association Basic Life Support required. (AHA BLS)


Special Skills:


+ Excellent communication skills.

+ Ability to be an effective team member.

+ Basic knowledge of testing procedures and medical terminology.


This position is represented by SEIU and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
