The purpose of a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/MT) is to obtain specimens for laboratory testing, performs laboratory tests on various instruments and consisting of hematological, blood banking, chemical, microscopic, or microbiology examinations. Sets up laboratory instruments; performs and assesses quality control studies; maintains and repairs laboratory instruments. Shows ability to work with a minimum of supervision. Demonstrates good judgment in reviewing test results. Uses good technique consistently.
Job duties/responsibilities include:
Organizing department, developing orientation protocol, orienting and teaching students as necessary
Using customer's name and smiling when communicating, being timely in response to customers' needs
Obtaining blood specimens using correct technique, labeling legibly and completely
Performing routine daily set-up and maintenance procedures on laboratory equipment
Maintaining quality control records and assessing quality control results
Properly recording results on report forms including date and initials
Showing good organizational skills to ensure the patient's results are available in a timely manner
Interacting well with patients, physicians, and other professionals
Being punctual and adhering to attendance policy
Required qualifications include:
Graduate of a NAACLS approved medical laboratory scientist educational program with clinical experience and coursework necessary to be Board Eligible to take MLS(ASCP) or MT(ASCP) registry exam.
Applicant must be certified or must become certified as one of the following within 12 months of hire date: MLS/MT(ASCP)
College transcript required.

Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Organized, able to prioritize, work in a fast pace environment and have excellent problem solving skills.
Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required along with a demonstration of leadership.
Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
Demonstrate sufficient knowledge of computers, telephone operations and other office equipment in order to carry out the duties of this position.
