Lab Pack Chemist (Travel or Onsite)

The Lab Pack Chemist provides on-site packaging and repackaging services for hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals, ensuring safe handling, accurate documentation, and compliant transportation and disposal. This role is ideal for an entry-level chemistry or life sciences graduate who wants to build a career in environmental services, gain extensive hands-on experience, and earn industry-recognized training and certifications.

Responsibilities

• Inventory, identify, and document hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals at customer sites with a high degree of accuracy.
• Segregate chemicals based on compatibility and regulatory requirements to ensure safe handling and transport.
• Package and repackage chemicals and hazardous waste into appropriate containers for transportation and disposal.
• Follow all applicable DOT regulations and company procedures when handling, packaging, and labeling chemicals and waste.
• Provide on-site supervision for routine customer lab pack projects, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
• Perform paper pack services, including preparing documentation and manifests for chemical and waste shipments.
• Support customer pre-pack services by guiding clients on proper segregation, labeling, and preparation of materials.
• Work collaboratively in teams to complete daily assignments at local and regional customer locations.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety and environmental compliance in all tasks and work environments.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams and customer contacts regarding project status, requirements, and any issues.
• Use company-provided vehicles and equipment responsibly and maintain a clean and organized work area in the warehouse and at customer sites.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Life Science, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
• Laboratory exposure and experience working around hazardous chemicals.
• Strong understanding of chemical properties and reactivity, including knowledge of which substances may react with others.
• Working knowledge of hazardous waste handling and chemical safety practices.
• Ability to follow and apply DOT regulations related to the packaging, labeling, and transportation of hazardous materials.
• Comfort working in environments where hazardous chemicals and waste are present.
• Attention to detail when inventorying, segregating, and documenting chemicals.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel overnight 1-2 days per week as part of the job.

• Experience with hazardous waste handling or hazardous waste management is preferred.
• Interest in building a long-term career in environmental services and waste management.
• Willingness to participate in extensive employer-sponsored training and certifications.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and team members.
• Ability to adapt to changing daily assignments and different customer sites.
• Comfort with a predominantly field-based role with no traditional laboratory testing work.

Work Environment

This is a full-time role with a Monday through Friday schedule during normal daytime hours. The work is primarily field-based, with daily starts at a small warehouse office in Raleigh where you receive assignments before heading out to local or regional customer sites. There is no traditional laboratory work or testing; instead, you work in customer facilities and storage areas handling and packaging chemicals and hazardous waste. The role involves regular travel within North Carolina and South Carolina, with some travel to Virginia, including 1-2 nights per week of overnight travel. Travel schedules are provided as far in advance as possible. All hotels and vehicles for work-related travel are provided, and a non-taxable per diem is available for food expenses during overnight trips. You work in teams, gaining extensive hands-on experience with chemical handling and environmental services in a large, growth-oriented organization that promotes from within and invests heavily in training and certifications.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $49920.00 - $49920.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
