Position Summary:

Perform routine tasksin a research environment. Assist in performing assigned laboratory taskswithout constant supervision. Assist staff in laboratory work. Must be able toorganize work, collect and analyze data, make calculations, prepare reports,keep records, and make independent decisions. Ability to complete assignedspecial projects with minimal supervision.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Perform enzymatic assays using both radioactive and non-radioactiveisotopically labeled subtrates
• Culture and transfection of mammalian cell lines
• Perform Western Blotting and PCR analysis
• Plasmid preparation
• Buffer preparation
• Document results in a laboratory notebook

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

• Background in Biology
• Basic understanding of biochemical principles

Required Qualifications: 

• Experience in a laboratory setting
• Ability to work cooperatively in a group environment
• Good communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect,professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and studentsfrom all backgrounds and experiences,or a commitment to do so as an hourly employee at VCU

Preferred Qualifications: 

Thesuccessful candidate will have experience in a biochemistry laboratory. Skills preferredinclude:

• Tissueculture
• Enzmaticassays
• PCR
• Standardmolecular biology techniques

This is a restricted position with no set end date and continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
