Expanded duties include setting up molecular tests, plating cultures, kit tests, loading analyzers in Blood Bank and Microbiology, manually program analyzers prior to loading samples and calling critical values to the nursing staff/providers. Must be a skilled phlebotomist to assist in blood collections as needed.
Expert phlebotomy and customer service skills
Load analyzers, including manual programming
Perform some laboratory testing (both waived and moderately complex)
Call critical values to nursing staff/providers
Provides an excellent experience for patients when collecting blood and other specimens
Excellent communication skills to communicate with patients effectively and tactfully, their families, coworkers, providers, and other hospital personnel
Must maintain high degree of accuracy while simultaneously performing a variety of tasks
May be required to work at the hospital or one of offsites
Requires accurate color perception
Capable of consistent, independent judgement under fluctuating workload pressure
May involve variable work hours and weekend/holiday rotation
Accountable to section supervisors, lead techs and technologists for work performed in different areas
Performs other duties as assigned
